Meet the Counsellor

Amanda Gresham
BSocSci(Psychology), MSocialWork(PQ)
I'm a social worker, with a Master of Social Work (PQ) and a Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) from Charles Sturt University.
I'm also a certified Lego Based Therapy facilitator. As well as private counselling work, I also work as a school counsellor with primary age children - and I LOVE my work!I help kids learn more about themselves and develop social & emotional skills and resilience. Importantly, I aim to help kids and their families to feel heard and understood. As a social worker, my counselling practice is holistic and I work collaboratively with families and schools to work towards common goals, strengthen communication and build supportive connections. My counselling approach is informed by CBT, ACT, Solutions-Focused Brief Therapy, strengths-based and neuro-affirming practice.Creativity and fun are so important during counselling with kids, and I love to use art, videos and games to help children feel motivated and engaged.

Individual Counselling

What to expect
Lots of kids talk to a counsellor, for lots of different reasons - like worries, problems with friends or school, or managing strong feelings.I help kids understand more about themselves and their emotions, set goals and learn new skillsAt your first appointment, we'll get to know each other, play a game or do some art. I'll tell you a bit about how counselling works. You can ask me questions or tell me about whatever's on your mind.I'll talk to the adults too, and we'll all make a plan together for how counselling might be helpful for you.
